Resumen
Lehi profetiza sobre la venida del Mesías, la dispersión y reunión de Israel, y el papel de los gentiles. Nefi desea comprender estas enseñanzas mediante el Espíritu Santo.
Ahora yo, Nephi, voy a escribir en estas planchas acerca de mis experiencias, mi liderazgo y mi ministerio. Para continuar con mi relato, necesito hablar un poco sobre mi padre y mis hermanos.
And now I, Nephi, proceed to give an account upon these plates of my proceedings, and my reign and ministry; wherefore, to proceed with mine account, I must speak somewhat of the things of my father, and also of my brethren.

For behold, it came to pass after my father had made an end of speaking the words of his dream, and also of exhorting them to all diligence, he spake unto them concerning the Jews—
Después que sean destruidos—aun esa gran ciudad Jerusalén—y muchos sean llevados cautivos a Babilonia, según el tiempo del Señor, ellos volverán y serán sacados de la cautividad. Después de ser traídos de regreso, una vez más poseerán la tierra de su herencia.
That after they should be destroyed, even that great city Jerusalem, and many be carried away captive into Babylon, according to the own due time of the Lord, they should return again, yea, even be brought back out of captivity; and after they should be brought back out of captivity they should possess again the land of their inheritance.
Seiscientos años después de que mi padre salió de Jerusalén, el Señor Dios levantará un profeta entre los judíos—un Mesías, o en otras palabras, un Salvador del mundo.
Yea, even six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem, a prophet would the Lord God raise up among the Jews—even a Messiah, or, in other words, a Savior of the world.
También habló acerca de los profetas, de cuántos habían testificado sobre estas cosas referentes a este Mesías, de quien él había hablado, o este Redentor del mundo.
And he also spake concerning the prophets, how great a number had testified of these things, concerning this Messiah, of whom he had spoken, or this Redeemer of the world.
Toda la humanidad estaba en un estado perdido y caído, y siempre permanecería así a menos que confiara en este Redentor.
Wherefore, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be save they should rely on this Redeemer.
También habló acerca de un profeta que vendría antes del Mesías para preparar el camino del Señor—
And he spake also concerning a prophet who should come before the Messiah, to prepare the way of the Lord—
Él salía al desierto y llamaba diciendo: "Preparen el camino del Señor y enderecen sus sendas, porque hay alguien entre ustedes a quien no conocen; él es más poderoso que yo, y no soy digno de desatar la correa de su sandalia." Mi padre habló mucho sobre esto.
Yea, even he should go forth and cry in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight; for there standeth one among you whom ye know not; and he is mightier than I, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. And much spake my father concerning this thing.
Mi padre dijo que él bautizaría en Betábara, al otro lado del Jordán, y que bautizaría con agua—aun que él bautizaría al Mesías con agua.
And my father said he should baptize in Bethabara, beyond Jordan; and he also said he should baptize with water; even that he should baptize the Messiah with water.
Después de bautizar al Mesías con agua, vería y testificaría que había bautizado al Cordero de Dios, quien quitaría los pecados del mundo.
And after he had baptized the Messiah with water, he should behold and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God, who should take away the sins of the world.
Después de que mi padre terminó de hablar, les habló a mis hermanos sobre el evangelio que sería predicado entre los judíos, y sobre cómo los judíos caerían en la incredulidad. Después de que mataran al Mesías, quien habría de venir, y después de que fuera muerto, resucitaría de entre los muertos y se manifestaría, por medio del Espíritu Santo, a los gentiles.
And it came to pass after my father had spoken these words he spake unto my brethren concerning the gospel which should be preached among the Jews, and also concerning the dwindling of the Jews in unbelief. And after they had slain the Messiah, who should come, and after he had been slain he should rise from the dead, and should make himself manifest, by the Holy Ghost, unto the Gentiles.
Mi padre también habló mucho acerca de los gentiles y de la casa de Israel, diciendo que debían ser comparados con un olivo cuyas ramas serían cortadas y esparcidas por toda la tierra.
Yea, even my father spake much concerning the Gentiles, and also concerning the house of Israel, that they should be compared like unto an olive-tree, whose branches should be broken off and should be scattered upon all the face of the earth.
Él dijo que debemos ser guiados juntos a la tierra prometida para cumplir la palabra del Señor, que seríamos esparcidos por toda la tierra.
Wherefore, he said it must needs be that we should be led with one accord into the land of promise, unto the fulfilling of the word of the Lord, that we should be scattered upon all the face of the earth.
Después de que la casa de Israel sea esparcida, será reunida de nuevo. Después de que los gentiles hayan recibido la plenitud del Evangelio, las ramas naturales del olivo, o los restos de la casa de Israel, serán injertados, o llegarán a conocer al verdadero Mesías, su Señor y Redentor.
And after the house of Israel should be scattered they should be gathered together again; or, in fine, after the Gentiles had received the fulness of the Gospel, the natural branches of the olive-tree, or the remnants of the house of Israel, should be grafted in, or come to the knowledge of the true Messiah, their Lord and their Redeemer.
De esta manera, mi padre profetizó y habló a mis hermanos, y también dijo muchas otras cosas que no he escrito en este libro, porque he escrito tantas de ellas como fueron necesarias en mi otro libro.
And after this manner of language did my father prophesy and speak unto my brethren, and also many more things which I do not write in this book; for I have written as many of them as were expedient for me in mine other book.
Todas estas cosas de las que he hablado sucedieron mientras mi padre vivía en una tienda en el valle de Lemuel.
And all these things, of which I have spoken, were done as my father dwelt in a tent, in the valley of Lemuel.
Después de que yo, Nefi, escuché todas las palabras de mi padre acerca de las cosas que vio en visión, y también las cosas que habló por el poder del Espíritu Santo—poder que recibió por la fe en el Hijo de Dios, quien es el Mesías que habría de venir—yo, Nefi, también quise ver, oír y saber estas cosas por el poder del Espíritu Santo, que es el don de Dios para todos los que lo buscan diligentemente, tanto en tiempos pasados como cuando él se manifieste a los hijos de los hombres.
And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God—and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come—I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men.
Él es el mismo de ayer, hoy y siempre; y el camino ha sido preparado para todos desde la fundación del mundo, si se arrepienten y vienen a él.
For he is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him.
Cualquiera que busque diligentemente hallará; y los misterios de Dios le serán revelados por el poder del Espíritu Santo, tanto ahora como en los tiempos antiguos, y tanto en los tiempos antiguos como en los tiempos venideros. Los caminos del Señor son un ciclo eterno.
For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round.
Así que recuerda, todos serán juzgados por todo lo que hagan.
Therefore remember, O man, for all thy doings thou shalt be brought into judgment.
Si has intentado hacer el mal durante tu tiempo de prueba, entonces serás hallado impuro ante el tribunal de Dios, y nada impuro puede vivir con Dios; así que tendrás que ser expulsado para siempre.
Wherefore, if ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation, then ye are found unclean before the judgment-seat of God; and no unclean thing can dwell with God; wherefore, ye must be cast off forever.
Y el Espíritu Santo me da autoridad para decir estas cosas, y no las niego.
And the Holy Ghost giveth authority that I should speak these things, and deny them not.
