Resumen
Isaías le dice al rey Acaz que no tema a los ejércitos invasores, profetiza su fracaso y da la señal del nacimiento de Emanuel, mientras advierte sobre la futura opresión y devastación asiria.
En los días de Acaz, hijo de Jotam y nieto de Uzías, rey de Judá, Rezín, rey de Siria, y Peka, hijo de Remalías y rey de Israel, subieron a Jerusalén para pelear contra ella, pero no pudieron conquistarla.
And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin, king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
A la casa de David le dijeron: “Siria se ha aliado con Efraín.” Su corazón y el corazón de su pueblo se estremecieron, como los árboles del bosque que se mecen con el viento.
And it was told the house of David, saying: Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
El Señor le dijo a Isaías: "Ve ahora a encontrarte con Acaz, tú y tu hijo Shearjashub, al final del conducto del estanque superior, en el camino al campo del lavador."
Then said the Lord unto Isaiah: Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field;
Dile: “Ten cuidado, mantén la calma, no tengas miedo ni te desanimes por estos dos tizones humeantes, por la furia de Rezín con Siria y el hijo de Remalías.”
And say unto him: Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be faint-hearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
Porque Siria, Efraín y el hijo de Remalías han tramado mal contra ti, diciendo:
Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying:
Ataquemos a Judá y causémosle problemas; rompamos sus defensas para nosotros y pongamos allí un rey: el hijo de Tabeal.
Let us go up against Judah and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, yea, the son of Tabeal.
El Señor Dios dice: No sucederá, y no tendrá éxito.
Thus saith the Lord God: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
La capital de Siria es Damasco, y el gobernante de Damasco es Rezín. Dentro de sesenta y cinco años, Efraín será destruido y ya no será un pueblo.
For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus, Rezin; and within three score and five years shall Ephraim be broken that it be not a people.
El jefe de Efraín es Samaria, y el jefe de Samaria es el hijo de Remalías. Si no crees, no permanecerás firme.
And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe surely ye shall not be established.
El Señor habló de nuevo a Acaz, diciendo:
Moreover, the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying:
Pídele al Señor tu Dios una señal; pídesela ya sea en lo más profundo o en lo más alto.
Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God; ask it either in the depths, or in the heights above.
Pero Acaz respondió: “No pediré nada, ni tentaré al Señor.”
But Ahaz said: I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.
Él dijo: "Escucha ahora, casa de David. ¿Te parece poco cansar a los hombres, que también cansarás a mi Dios?"
And he said: Hear ye now, O house of David; is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
Por eso el Señor mismo te dará una señal: una virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, y llamará su nombre Emanuel.
Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign—Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Comerá mantequilla y miel para que sepa rechazar el mal y escoger el bien.
Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil and to choose the good.
Antes de que el niño sepa rechazar el mal y escoger el bien, la tierra que odias será abandonada por sus dos reyes.
For before the child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
El Señor traerá sobre ti, sobre tu pueblo y sobre la casa de tu padre un tiempo como no ha habido desde que Efraín se separó de Judá; él hará venir al rey de Asiria.
The Lord shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah, the king of Assyria.
En ese día, el Señor silbará para llamar a la mosca que está en la parte más lejana de Egipto, y a la abeja que está en la tierra de Asiria.
And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
Vendrán y se establecerán en los valles desiertos, en las grietas de las rocas, y entre todos los espinos y arbustos.
And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
Ese mismo día, el Señor usará una navaja alquilada de más allá del río—al rey de Asiria—para afeitar tu cabeza, el vello de tus piernas y tu barba.
In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.
En ese día, un hombre cuidará de una ternera joven y dos ovejas.
And it shall come to pass in that day, a man shall nourish a young cow and two sheep;
Por la abundancia de leche que producen, él comerá mantequilla; y todos los que queden en la tierra comerán mantequilla y miel.
And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk they shall give he shall eat butter; for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.
En ese día, todo lugar que antes tenía mil viñas valoradas en mil piezas de plata estará cubierto de espinos y cardos.
And it shall come to pass in that day, every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, which shall be for briers and thorns.
Los hombres irán allí con arcos y flechas, porque toda la tierra estará cubierta de zarzas y espinos.
With arrows and with bows shall men come thither, because all the land shall become briers and thorns.
Todos los cerros que se caven con azadón ya no estarán amenazados por zarzas y espinos; más bien, servirán para que los bueyes y las ovejas pasten.
And all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and the treading of lesser cattle.
