Resumen
Isaías profetiza que Asiria invadirá porque el pueblo rechaza a Dios, advierte contra seguir falsas guías y enseña a confiar en el Señor en vez de temer conspiraciones o buscar respuestas entre los muertos.
La palabra del Señor me dijo: Toma un rollo grande y escribe en él claramente sobre Maher-salal-has-baz.
Moreover, the word of the Lord said unto me: Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
Tomé testigos fieles para dejar constancia de esto: Urías el sacerdote y Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías.
And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
Fui a la profetisa, y ella quedó embarazada y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces el Señor me dijo: "Ponle por nombre Maher-salal-has-baz."
And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived and bare a son. Then said the Lord to me: Call his name, Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
Antes de que el niño sea lo suficientemente grande para decir: "Mi padre" y "mi madre", la riqueza de Damasco y el botín de Samaria serán llevados por el rey de Asiria.
For behold, the child shall not have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, before the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
El Señor también me habló de nuevo, diciendo:
The Lord spake also unto me again, saying:
Porque este pueblo rechaza las aguas suaves de Siloé y se alegra en Rezín y en el hijo de Remalías;
Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;
Así que ahora el Señor va a traer contra ellos las aguas poderosas y abundantes del río: el rey de Asiria y toda su gloria. Él se levantará sobre todos sus cauces y desbordará todas sus orillas.
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks.
Él pasará por Judá, desbordándose y arrasándolo. Llegará hasta el cuello, y la extensión de sus alas cubrirá todo el ancho de tu tierra, oh Emanuel.
And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.
Reúnanse, pueblos, y serán quebrantados; escuchen, todos ustedes de tierras lejanas. Prepárense, pero serán quebrantados; prepárense, pero serán quebrantados.
Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear all ye of far countries; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
Hagan sus planes juntos, pero no servirán de nada; digan sus palabras, pero no tendrán éxito, porque Dios está con nosotros.
Take counsel together, and it shall come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand; for God is with us.
El Señor me habló con mano fuerte y me instruyó que no siguiera los caminos de este pueblo, diciendo:
For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:
No llames conspiración a todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración; no temas lo que ellos temen ni tengas miedo.
Say ye not, A confederacy, to all to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
Honra al Señor de los Ejércitos, y que él sea tu temor y tu reverencia.
Sanctify the Lord of Hosts himself, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
Él será un santuario, pero también una piedra con la que la gente tropieza y una roca que ofende a ambas casas de Israel, una trampa y un lazo para el pueblo que vive en Jerusalén.
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Muchos de ellos tropezarán y caerán, serán quebrantados, quedarán atrapados y serán capturados.
And many among them shall stumble and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
Guarda el testimonio y sella la ley entre mis discípulos.
Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
Esperaré al Señor, que está ocultando su rostro de la casa de Jacob, y lo buscaré.
And I will wait upon the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
Yo y los hijos que el Señor me ha dado somos señales y maravillas en Israel de parte del Señor de los Ejércitos, que vive en el monte Sion.
Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of Hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion.
Cuando te digan: “Consulta a los que tienen espíritus familiares y a los hechiceros que susurran y murmuran”, ¿no debería el pueblo buscar a su Dios? ¿Acaso los vivos deben buscar respuestas entre los muertos?
And when they shall say unto you: Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep and mutter—should not a people seek unto their God for the living to hear from the dead?
Ve a la ley y al testimonio; si no hablan conforme a esta palabra, es porque no hay luz en ellos.
To the law and to the testimony; and if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Pasarán por la tierra oprimidos y hambrientos; y cuando tengan hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios, y alzarán la vista hacia lo alto.
And they shall pass through it hardly bestead and hungry; and it shall come to pass that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
Mirarán a la tierra y verán aflicción, oscuridad y angustia, y serán empujados a una oscuridad aún más profunda.
And they shall look unto the earth and behold trouble, and darkness, dimness of anguish, and shall be driven to darkness.
