Resumen
Lehi bendice a su familia y muere; Nefi lamenta sus debilidades pero expresa confianza en Dios, ofreciendo una oración sincera por fortaleza y liberación del pecado y de sus enemigos.
Ahora yo, Nephi, estoy hablando sobre las profecías que mi padre ha dicho, acerca de José, quien fue llevado a Egipto.
And now, I, Nephi, speak concerning the prophecies of which my father hath spoken, concerning Joseph, who was carried into Egypt.
Él realmente profetizó acerca de todos sus descendientes. Las profecías que escribió están entre las más grandes. Profetizó sobre nosotros y nuestras futuras generaciones, y estas están escritas en las planchas de bronce.
For behold, he truly prophesied concerning all his seed. And the prophecies which he wrote, there are not many greater. And he prophesied concerning us, and our future generations; and they are written upon the plates of brass.
Después de que mi padre terminó de hablar sobre las profecías de José, llamó a los hijos de Lamán—sus hijos e hijas—y les dijo: "Mis hijos e hijas, que son los hijos de mi primogénito, quiero que escuchen mis palabras."
Wherefore, after my father had made an end of speaking concerning the prophecies of Joseph, he called the children of Laman, his sons, and his daughters, and said unto them: Behold, my sons, and my daughters, who are the sons and the daughters of my first-born, I would that ye should give ear unto my words.
El Señor Dios ha dicho: Mientras guardes mis mandamientos, prosperarás en la tierra; pero si no guardas mis mandamientos, serás apartado de mi presencia.
For the Lord God hath said that: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land; and inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from my presence.
Hijos e hijas míos, no puedo ir a la tumba sin dejarles una bendición; porque sé que si son criados en el camino en que deben andar, no se apartarán de él.
But behold, my sons and my daughters, I cannot go down to my grave save I should leave a blessing upon you; for behold, I know that if ye are brought up in the way ye should go ye will not depart from it.
Si eres maldito, te dejo mi bendición para que la maldición sea quitada de ti y puesta sobre tus padres en su lugar.
Wherefore, if ye are cursed, behold, I leave my blessing upon you, that the cursing may be taken from you and be answered upon the heads of your parents.
Por mi bendición, el Señor Dios no permitirá que perezcas; él será misericordioso contigo y con tus descendientes para siempre.
Wherefore, because of my blessing the Lord God will not suffer that ye shall perish; wherefore, he will be merciful unto you and unto your seed forever.
Después de que mi padre terminó de hablar a los hijos e hijas de Laman, mandó llamar a los hijos e hijas de Lemuel para que se presentaran ante él.
And it came to pass that after my father had made an end of speaking to the sons and daughters of Laman, he caused the sons and daughters of Lemuel to be brought before him.
Les habló, diciendo: Hijos e hijas míos, que son los hijos de mi segundo hijo, les doy la misma bendición que di a los hijos e hijas de Laman. No serán completamente destruidos, sino que al final sus descendientes serán bendecidos.
And he spake unto them, saying: Behold, my sons and my daughters, who are the sons and the daughters of my second son; behold I leave unto you the same blessing which I left unto the sons and daughters of Laman; wherefore, thou shalt not utterly be destroyed; but in the end thy seed shall be blessed.
Cuando mi padre terminó de hablarles, habló a los hijos de Ismael y a toda su casa.
And it came to pass that when my father had made an end of speaking unto them, behold, he spake unto the sons of Ishmael, yea, and even all his household.
Después de hablarles, habló a Sam, diciendo: Tú y tus descendientes son bendecidos, porque heredarás la tierra igual que tu hermano Nephi. Tus descendientes serán contados con los de él; tú serás como tu hermano, y tus descendientes serán como los suyos; y serás bendecido todos tus días.
And after he had made an end of speaking unto them, he spake unto Sam, saying: Blessed art thou, and thy seed; for thou shall inherit the land like unto thy brother Nephi. And thy seed shall be numbered with his seed; and thou shalt be even like unto thy brother, and thy seed like unto his seed; and thou shalt be blessed in all thy days.
Después de que mi padre, Lehi, habló a toda su casa según los sentimientos de su corazón y el Espíritu del Señor que estaba en él, envejeció. Murió y fue sepultado.
And it came to pass after my father, Lehi, had spoken unto all his household, according to the feelings of his heart and the Spirit of the Lord which was in him, he waxed old. And it came to pass that he died, and was buried.
No muchos días después de su muerte, Lamán, Lemuel y los hijos de Ismael se enojaron conmigo a causa de las advertencias del Señor.
And it came to pass that not many days after his death, Laman and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael were angry with me because of the admonitions of the Lord.
Yo, Nefi, me vi obligado a hablarles conforme a su palabra. Ya les había dicho muchas cosas, así como mi padre antes de morir. Muchas de esas cosas están escritas en mis otras planchas, que contienen una historia más detallada.
For I, Nephi, was constrained to speak unto them, according to his word; for I had spoken many things unto them, and also my father, before his death; many of which sayings are written upon mine other plates; for a more history part are written upon mine other plates.
Escribo los sentimientos de mi alma en éstas, junto con muchas de las escrituras grabadas en las planchas de bronce. Mi alma se deleita en las escrituras, y mi corazón las medita y las escribe para la enseñanza y el beneficio de mis hijos.
And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.
Mi alma se deleita en las cosas del Señor, y mi corazón piensa continuamente en las cosas que he visto y oído.
Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.
A pesar de que el Señor ha sido tan bueno conmigo y me ha mostrado sus grandes y maravillosas obras, mi corazón clama: "¡Oh, miserable de mí!" Mi corazón está afligido por mis debilidades, y mi alma está angustiada por mis pecados.
Nevertheless, notwithstanding the great goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and marvelous works, my heart exclaimeth: O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.
Me siento rodeado por las tentaciones y pecados que tan fácilmente me afectan.
I am encompassed about, because of the temptations and the sins which do so easily beset me.
Cuando quiero regocijarme, mi corazón gime a causa de mis pecados; pero sé en quién he confiado.
And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.
Mi Dios ha sido mi apoyo; él me ha guiado a través de mis aflicciones en el desierto, y me ha preservado en las aguas del gran abismo.
My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep.
Me ha llenado con su amor, hasta el punto de que consume todo mi ser.
He hath filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my flesh.
Él ha confundido a mis enemigos y los ha hecho temblar delante de mí.
He hath confounded mine enemies, unto the causing of them to quake before me.
Él ha escuchado mi clamor durante el día, y me ha dado conocimiento por medio de visiones en la noche.
Behold, he hath heard my cry by day, and he hath given me knowledge by visions in the nighttime.
Durante el día me he vuelto valiente en la oración poderosa delante de Él; he alzado mi voz al cielo, y ángeles descendieron y me ministraron.
And by day have I waxed bold in mighty prayer before him; yea, my voice have I sent up on high; and angels came down and ministered unto me.
En las alas de su Espíritu, mi cuerpo ha sido llevado a montañas sumamente altas. Mis ojos han visto cosas grandiosas, incluso demasiado grandes para que las personas las comprendan; así que se me mandó no escribirlas.
And upon the wings of his Spirit hath my body been carried away upon exceedingly high mountains. And mine eyes have beheld great things, yea, even too great for man; therefore I was bidden that I should not write them.
Oh, entonces, si he visto cosas tan grandes, si el Señor en su condescendencia hacia los hijos de los hombres ha visitado a la gente con tanta misericordia, ¿por qué debería mi corazón llorar y mi alma quedarse en el valle de la tristeza, y mi cuerpo consumirse, y mi fuerza debilitarse a causa de mis aflicciones?
O then, if I have seen so great things, if the Lord in his condescension unto the children of men hath visited men in so much mercy, why should my heart weep and my soul linger in the valley of sorrow, and my flesh waste away, and my strength slacken, because of mine afflictions?
¿Y por qué debería ceder al pecado por mis deseos físicos? ¿Por qué debería permitir las tentaciones, dejando que el maligno tenga un lugar en mi corazón para destruir mi paz y angustiar mi alma? ¿Por qué estoy enojado a causa de mi enemigo?
And why should I yield to sin, because of my flesh? Yea, why should I give way to temptations, that the evil one have place in my heart to destroy my peace and afflict my soul? Why am I angry because of mine enemy?
¡Despierta, alma mía! No te dejes oprimir más por el pecado. Alégrate, corazón mío, y no le des más lugar al enemigo de mi alma.
Awake, my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, O my heart, and give place no more for the enemy of my soul.
No te enojes de nuevo a causa de mis enemigos. No permitas que mi fuerza se debilite por mis aflicciones.
Do not anger again because of mine enemies. Do not slacken my strength because of mine afflictions.
Alégrate, mi corazón, y ora al Señor, diciendo: Oh Señor, te alabaré para siempre; mi alma se regocijará en ti, mi Dios, y la roca de mi salvación.
Rejoice, O my heart, and cry unto the Lord, and say: O Lord, I will praise thee forever; yea, my soul will rejoice in thee, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
Oh Señor, ¿redimirás mi alma? ¿Me librarás de las manos de mis enemigos? ¿Me ayudarás a temblar ante la presencia del pecado?
O Lord, wilt thou redeem my soul? Wilt thou deliver me out of the hands of mine enemies? Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin?
Por favor, mantén cerradas para mí las puertas del infierno, porque mi corazón está quebrantado y mi espíritu es humilde. Señor, no cierres para mí las puertas de tu justicia, para que pueda andar por el camino de la humildad y permanecer fiel en la senda recta y angosta.
May the gates of hell be shut continually before me, because that my heart is broken and my spirit is contrite! O Lord, wilt thou not shut the gates of thy righteousness before me, that I may walk in the path of the low valley, that I may be strict in the plain road!
Oh Señor, ¿me rodearás con el manto de tu justicia? Oh Señor, ¿prepararás una salida para que escape de mis enemigos? ¿Enderezarás mi camino delante de mí? Por favor, no pongas tropiezos en mi camino, sino despeja mi senda delante de mí, y no cierres mi paso, sino cierra los caminos de mi enemigo.
O Lord, wilt thou encircle me around in the robe of thy righteousness! O Lord, wilt thou make a way for mine escape before mine enemies! Wilt thou make my path straight before me! Wilt thou not place a stumbling block in my way—but that thou wouldst clear my way before me, and hedge not up my way, but the ways of mine enemy.
Oh Señor, he confiado en ti, y confiaré en ti para siempre. No pondré mi confianza en la fuerza humana, porque sé que cualquiera que confía en la fuerza humana es maldito. Maldito es quien pone su confianza en las personas o depende del poder humano.
O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm.
Yo sé que Dios da generosamente a quienes le piden. Mi Dios me dará si no pido cosas equivocadas; así que levantaré mi voz a ti, clamaré a ti, mi Dios, la roca de mi rectitud. Mi voz siempre se elevará a ti, mi roca y mi Dios eterno. Amén.
Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God. Amen.
