Resumen
Jacob enseña sobre la necesidad de la Expiación y la resurrección, las consecuencias del pecado, la importancia del arrepentimiento y la misericordia y justicia de Dios en el plan de salvación.
Ahora bien, mis amados hermanos y hermanas, he leído estas cosas para que puedan conocer los convenios que el Señor ha hecho con toda la casa de Israel—
And now, my beloved brethren, I have read these things that ye might know concerning the covenants of the Lord that he has covenanted with all the house of Israel—
Él ha hablado a los judíos por medio de sus santos profetas desde el principio, de generación en generación, hasta que llegue el momento en que sean restaurados a la verdadera iglesia y redil de Dios; cuando sean reunidos en las tierras de su herencia y establecidos en todas las tierras que se les han prometido.
That he has spoken unto the Jews, by the mouth of his holy prophets, even from the beginning down, from generation to generation, until the time comes that they shall be restored to the true church and fold of God; when they shall be gathered home to the lands of their inheritance, and shall be established in all their lands of promise.
Mis amados hermanos, les digo estas cosas para que se regocijen y levanten la cabeza para siempre, por las bendiciones que el Señor Dios dará a sus hijos.
Behold, my beloved brethren, I speak unto you these things that ye may rejoice, and lift up your heads forever, because of the blessings which the Lord God shall bestow upon your children.
Sé que muchos de ustedes han buscado con diligencia entender las cosas que han de venir. También sé que comprenden que nuestros cuerpos deben desgastarse y morir; sin embargo, en nuestros cuerpos veremos a Dios.
For I know that ye have searched much, many of you, to know of things to come; wherefore I know that ye know that our flesh must waste away and die; nevertheless, in our bodies we shall see God.
Yo sé que tú sabes que en la carne él se manifestará a los de Jerusalén, de donde venimos; porque es necesario que eso suceda entre ellos. El gran Creador debe permitir que él mismo se haga sujeto al hombre en la carne y muera por todos, para que toda la humanidad pueda llegar a estar sujeta a él.
Yea, I know that ye know that in the body he shall show himself unto those at Jerusalem, from whence we came; for it is expedient that it should be among them; for it behooveth the great Creator that he suffereth himself to become subject unto man in the flesh, and die for all men, that all men might become subject unto him.
Porque la muerte ha llegado a todos para cumplir el misericordioso plan del gran Creador, debe haber un poder de resurrección. La resurrección es necesaria a causa de la Caída, y la Caída ocurrió por la transgresión. Como las personas llegaron a ser caídas, fueron separadas de la presencia del Señor.
For as death hath passed upon all men, to fulfil the merciful plan of the great Creator, there must needs be a power of resurrection, and the resurrection must needs come unto man by reason of the fall; and the fall came by reason of transgression; and because man became fallen they were cut off from the presence of the Lord.
Por lo tanto, debe haber una expiación infinita; si no fuera infinita, esta corrupción no podría volverse incorruptible. El primer juicio que vino sobre la humanidad habría durado para siempre. Si fuera así, nuestros cuerpos habrían muerto, se habrían descompuesto y habrían vuelto a la tierra, sin jamás resucitar.
Wherefore, it must needs be an infinite atonement—save it should be an infinite atonement this corruption could not put on incorruption. Wherefore, the first judgment which came upon man must needs have remained to an endless duration. And if so, this flesh must have laid down to rot and to crumble to its mother earth, to rise no more.
¡Oh, la sabiduría de Dios, su misericordia y gracia! Si nuestros cuerpos nunca resucitaran, nuestros espíritus tendrían que quedar sujetos a ese ángel que cayó de la presencia del Dios Eterno y se convirtió en el diablo, sin posibilidad de levantarse jamás.
O the wisdom of God, his mercy and grace! For behold, if the flesh should rise no more our spirits must become subject to that angel who fell from before the presence of the Eternal God, and became the devil, to rise no more.
Nuestros espíritus se habrían vuelto como él, y llegaríamos a ser demonios, ángeles para un diablo, excluidos de la presencia de nuestro Dios, y permaneceríamos con el padre de las mentiras, en miseria, como él; con ese ser que engañó a nuestros primeros padres, que se transforma casi en un ángel de luz, y que incita a los hijos de los hombres a combinaciones secretas de asesinato y toda clase de obras secretas de tinieblas.
And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself; yea, to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness.
Oh, cuán grande es la bondad de nuestro Dios, que prepara un camino para que podamos escapar del poder de este monstruo terrible—la muerte y el infierno—a lo que llamo la muerte del cuerpo y también la muerte del espíritu.
O how great the goodness of our God, who prepareth a way for our escape from the grasp of this awful monster; yea, that monster, death and hell, which I call the death of the body, and also the death of the spirit.
Por la manera en que Dios, el Santo de Israel, provee la liberación, esta muerte física de la que he hablado entregará a sus muertos; esta muerte significa la tumba.
And because of the way of deliverance of our God, the Holy One of Israel, this death, of which I have spoken, which is the temporal, shall deliver up its dead; which death is the grave.

And this death of which I have spoken, which is the spiritual death, shall deliver up its dead; which spiritual death is hell; wherefore, death and hell must deliver up their dead, and hell must deliver up its captive spirits, and the grave must deliver up its captive bodies, and the bodies and the spirits of men will be restored one to the other; and it is by the power of the resurrection of the Holy One of Israel.
¡Cuán maravilloso es el plan de nuestro Dios! El paraíso de Dios debe entregar los espíritus de los justos, y la tumba debe entregar los cuerpos de los justos. El espíritu y el cuerpo se reúnen de nuevo, y todos llegan a ser incorruptibles e inmortales, almas vivientes con un conocimiento perfecto como el que tenemos en la carne, excepto que nuestro conocimiento será perfecto.
O how great the plan of our God! For on the other hand, the paradise of God must deliver up the spirits of the righteous, and the grave deliver up the body of the righteous; and the spirit and the body is restored to itself again, and all men become incorruptible, and immortal, and they are living souls, having a perfect knowledge like unto us in the flesh, save it be that our knowledge shall be perfect.
Tendremos un entendimiento perfecto de toda nuestra culpa, nuestra impureza y nuestra desnudez; y los justos tendrán un entendimiento perfecto de su felicidad y su rectitud, estando vestidos de pureza, incluso con el manto de la rectitud.
Wherefore, we shall have a perfect knowledge of all our guilt, and our uncleanness, and our nakedness; and the righteous shall have a perfect knowledge of their enjoyment, and their righteousness, being clothed with purity, yea, even with the robe of righteousness.
Cuando todos hayan pasado de esta primera muerte a la vida y se hayan vuelto inmortales, deberán presentarse ante el tribunal del Santo de Israel. Entonces vendrá el juicio, y deberán ser juzgados conforme al santo juicio de Dios.
And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they must appear before the judgment-seat of the Holy One of Israel; and then cometh the judgment, and then must they be judged according to the holy judgment of God.
Tan cierto como que el Señor vive, porque el Señor Dios lo ha dicho, y es su palabra eterna, que no puede pasar: los justos permanecerán justos, y los impuros permanecerán impuros. Los impuros son el diablo y sus ángeles, y ellos irán al fuego eterno preparado para ellos. Su tormento es como un lago de fuego y azufre, cuya llama sube por los siglos de los siglos y no tiene fin.
And assuredly, as the Lord liveth, for the Lord God hath spoken it, and it is his eternal word, which cannot pass away, that they who are righteous shall be righteous still, and they who are filthy shall be filthy still; wherefore, they who are filthy are the devil and his angels; and they shall go away into everlasting fire; prepared for them; and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end.
¡Oh, la grandeza y la justicia de nuestro Dios! Él cumple todas sus palabras, y han salido de su boca, y su ley debe cumplirse.
O the greatness and the justice of our God! For he executeth all his words, and they have gone forth out of his mouth, and his law must be fulfilled.
Los justos, los santos del Santo de Israel, los que han creído en el Santo de Israel, los que han soportado las pruebas del mundo y han rechazado su vergüenza, heredarán el reino de Dios, que fue preparado para ellos desde la fundación del mundo, y su gozo será completo para siempre.
But, behold, the righteous, the saints of the Holy One of Israel, they who have believed in the Holy One of Israel, they who have endured the crosses of the world, and despised the shame of it, they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was prepared for them from the foundation of the world, and their joy shall be full forever.
¡Oh, cuán grande es la misericordia de nuestro Dios, el Santo de Israel! Él libra a sus santos de ese monstruo terrible—el diablo, y de la muerte y el infierno, y de ese lago de fuego y azufre, que es tormento eterno.
O the greatness of the mercy of our God, the Holy One of Israel! For he delivereth his saints from that awful monster the devil, and death, and hell, and that lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.
¡Cuán grande es la santidad de nuestro Dios! Él lo sabe todo, y no hay nada que no conozca.
O how great the holiness of our God! For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it.
Él viene al mundo para salvar a todos los que escuchen su voz; porque él sufre los dolores de todas las personas—los dolores de cada ser viviente, incluyendo hombres, mujeres y niños—que son parte de la familia de Adán.
And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.
Él permite esto para que la resurrección pueda llegar a todos, para que todas las personas puedan presentarse ante él en el gran día del juicio.
And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day.

And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.
Si no se arrepienten, no creen en su nombre, no se bautizan en su nombre y no perseveran hasta el fin, serán condenados, porque así lo ha dicho el Señor Dios, el Santo de Israel.
And if they will not repent and believe in his name, and be baptized in his name, and endure to the end, they must be damned; for the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has spoken it.
Él ha dado una ley, y donde no se ha dado ley, no hay castigo. Donde no hay castigo, no hay condenación. Donde no hay condenación, las misericordias del Santo de Israel tienen derecho sobre ellos por causa de la expiación, porque son liberados por su poder.
Wherefore, he has given a law; and where there is no law given there is no punishment; and where there is no punishment there is no condemnation; and where there is no condemnation the mercies of the Holy One of Israel have claim upon them, because of the atonement; for they are delivered by the power of him.
La expiación satisface las demandas de su justicia para todos aquellos a quienes no se les ha dado la ley, así que son liberados de ese terrible monstruo—la muerte, el infierno, el diablo y el lago de fuego y azufre, que es tormento sin fin—y son restaurados al Dios que les dio la vida, que es el Santo de Israel.
For the atonement satisfieth the demands of his justice upon all those who have not the law given to them, that they are delivered from that awful monster, death and hell, and the devil, and the lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment; and they are restored to that God who gave them breath, which is the Holy One of Israel.
Pero ¡ay de aquellos a quienes se les ha dado la ley, que tienen todos los mandamientos de Dios como nosotros, y aun así los quebrantan y desperdician los días de su probación, porque su situación es terrible!
But wo unto him that has the law given, yea, that has all the commandments of God, like unto us, and that transgresseth them, and that wasteth the days of his probation, for awful is his state!
¡Oh, ese astuto plan del maligno! ¡Cuán vanos, débiles y necios son los hombres! Cuando llegan a ser instruidos, piensan que son sabios y no escuchan el consejo de Dios porque lo dejan a un lado, creyendo que lo saben todo por sí mismos. Su sabiduría es necedad y no les sirve de nada. Perecerán.
O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish.
Es bueno ser instruido si escuchan el consejo de Dios.
But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God.
Pero hay de los ricos, que son ricos en cosas del mundo. Porque son ricos, desprecian a los pobres y persiguen a los mansos, y sus corazones están puestos en sus tesoros; así que su tesoro se convierte en su dios. Su tesoro perecerá con ellos también.
But wo unto the rich, who are rich as to the things of the world. For because they are rich they despise the poor, and they persecute the meek, and their hearts are upon their treasures; wherefore, their treasure is their God. And behold, their treasure shall perish with them also.
Y hay tristeza para los que son sordos y se niegan a escuchar, porque serán destruidos.
And wo unto the deaf that will not hear; for they shall perish.
Ay de aquellos que se niegan a ver, porque también serán destruidos.
Wo unto the blind that will not see; for they shall perish also.
¡Ay de los que son tercos de corazón, porque el conocimiento de sus pecados los herirá en el día final!
Wo unto the uncircumcised of heart, for a knowledge of their iniquities shall smite them at the last day.
¡Ay del mentiroso, porque será echado al infierno!
Wo unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.
Ay de aquel asesino que mata deliberadamente, porque morirá.
Wo unto the murderer who deliberately killeth, for he shall die.
Ay de aquellos que cometen inmoralidad sexual, porque serán echados al infierno.
Wo unto them who commit whoredoms, for they shall be thrust down to hell.
Ay de aquellos que adoran ídolos, porque el diablo de todos los diablos se complace en ellos.
Yea, wo unto those that worship idols, for the devil of all devils delighteth in them.
Al final, la tristeza espera a todos los que mueren en sus pecados; porque volverán a Dios, verán su rostro y permanecerán en sus pecados.
And, in fine, wo unto all those who die in their sins; for they shall return to God, and behold his face, and remain in their sins.
Mis amados hermanos y hermanas, recuerden cuán terrible es pecar contra el Dios Santo, y también cuán peligroso es ceder a las tentaciones del engañador. Recuerden que enfocarse en las cosas del mundo lleva a la muerte, pero enfocarse en las cosas espirituales lleva a la vida eterna.
O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.
Mis amados hermanos y hermanas, escuchen mis palabras. Recuerden cuán grande es el Santo de Israel. No digan que he hablado cosas duras contra ustedes; si lo hacen, estarán hablando contra la verdad, porque he hablado las palabras de su Creador. Sé que las palabras de verdad son difíciles para todos los que están impuros, pero los justos no les temen, porque aman la verdad y no se conmueven.
O, my beloved brethren, give ear to my words. Remember the greatness of the Holy One of Israel. Do not say that I have spoken hard things against you; for if ye do, ye will revile against the truth; for I have spoken the words of your Maker. I know that the words of truth are hard against all uncleanness; but the righteous fear them not, for they love the truth and are not shaken.
Oh entonces, mis amados hermanos y hermanas, acérquense al Señor, el Santo. Recuerden que sus caminos son justos. El camino para nosotros es angosto, pero es un curso recto delante de nosotros, y el guardián de la puerta es el Santo de Israel; él no emplea a ningún siervo allí, y no hay otra manera sino por la puerta, porque no puede ser engañado, porque el Señor Dios es su nombre.
O then, my beloved brethren, come unto the Lord, the Holy One. Remember that his paths are righteous. Behold, the way for man is narrow, but it lieth in a straight course before him, and the keeper of the gate is the Holy One of Israel; and he employeth no servant there; and there is none other way save it be by the gate; for he cannot be deceived, for the Lord God is his name.
A cualquiera que llama, él le abrirá. Pero a los sabios, los instruidos y los ricos que se enorgullecen por su conocimiento, sabiduría y riquezas—a estos es a quienes él desprecia. A menos que dejen esas cosas, se vean a sí mismos como necios delante de Dios y se humillen profundamente, él no les abrirá.
And whoso knocketh, to him will he open; and the wise, and the learned, and they that are rich, who are puffed up because of their learning, and their wisdom, and their riches—yea, they are they whom he despiseth; and save they shall cast these things away, and consider themselves fools before God, and come down in the depths of humility, he will not open unto them.
Pero las cosas de los sabios y prudentes les serán ocultas para siempre—esa felicidad que está preparada para los santos.
But the things of the wise and the prudent shall be hid from them forever—yea, that happiness which is prepared for the saints.
Oh, mis amados hermanos, recuerden mis palabras. Me quito mis vestiduras y las sacudo delante de ustedes. Oro al Dios de mi salvación para que me mire con su ojo que todo lo escudriña. En el día final, cuando todos sean juzgados por sus obras, sabrán que el Dios de Israel fue testigo de que sacudí de mi alma sus pecados, y que me presento ante él con pureza, libre de su sangre.
O, my beloved brethren, remember my words. Behold, I take off my garments, and I shake them before you; I pray the God of my salvation that he view me with his all-searching eye; wherefore, ye shall know at the last day, when all men shall be judged of their works, that the God of Israel did witness that I shook your iniquities from my soul, and that I stand with brightness before him, and am rid of your blood.
Mis amados hermanos y hermanas, apártense de sus pecados; libérense de las cadenas de aquel que quiere atarlos; vengan al Dios que es la roca de su salvación.
O, my beloved brethren, turn away from your sins; shake off the chains of him that would bind you fast; come unto that God who is the rock of your salvation.
Prepara tu alma para ese día glorioso cuando la justicia será dada a los justos, el día del juicio, para que no retrocedas con un miedo terrible; para que no recuerdes perfectamente tu horrible culpa y te veas obligado a clamar: Santo, santo son tus juicios, oh Señor Dios Todopoderoso; pero yo conozco mi culpa; quebranté tu ley, y mis pecados son míos; y el diablo me ha tomado, haciéndome víctima de su terrible miseria.
Prepare your souls for that glorious day when justice shall be administered unto the righteous, even the day of judgment, that ye may not shrink with awful fear; that ye may not remember your awful guilt in perfectness, and be constrained to exclaim: Holy, holy are thy judgments, O Lord God Almighty—but I know my guilt; I transgressed thy law, and my transgressions are mine; and the devil hath obtained me, that I am a prey to his awful misery.
Mis hermanos, ¿es necesario que los despierte a la terrible realidad de estas cosas? ¿Afligiría yo sus almas si sus mentes fueran puras? ¿Les hablaría tan claramente sobre la verdad si estuvieran libres de pecado?
But behold, my brethren, is it expedient that I should awake you to an awful reality of these things? Would I harrow up your souls if your minds were pure? Would I be plain unto you according to the plainness of the truth if ye were freed from sin?
Si fueras santo, te hablaría sobre la santidad; pero como no eres santo y me ves como un maestro, es necesario que te enseñe las consecuencias del pecado.
Behold, if ye were holy I would speak unto you of holiness; but as ye are not holy, and ye look upon me as a teacher, it must needs be expedient that I teach you the consequences of sin.
Mi alma aborrece el pecado, y mi corazón halla gozo en la rectitud; y alabaré el santo nombre de mi Dios.
Behold, my soul abhorreth sin, and my heart delighteth in righteousness; and I will praise the holy name of my God.
Vengan, mis hermanos, todos los que tienen sed, vengan a las aguas. Y el que no tenga dinero, venga, compre y coma. Vengan, compren vino y leche sin dinero y sin costo.
Come, my brethren, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters; and he that hath no money, come buy and eat; yea, come buy wine and milk without money and without price.
No gastes dinero en cosas que no tienen valor, ni trabajes por cosas que no pueden satisfacer. Escúchame con atención y recuerda mis palabras. Ven al Santo de Israel y disfruta lo que no perece ni se corrompe, y deja que tu alma encuentre gozo en abundancia.
Wherefore, do not spend money for that which is of no worth, nor your labor for that which cannot satisfy. Hearken diligently unto me, and remember the words which I have spoken; and come unto the Holy One of Israel, and feast upon that which perisheth not, neither can be corrupted, and let your soul delight in fatness.
Mis amados hermanos y hermanas, recuerden las palabras de su Dios; ora a Él continuamente durante el día, y da gracias a su santo nombre en la noche. Que tu corazón se regocije.
Behold, my beloved brethren, remember the words of your God; pray unto him continually by day, and give thanks unto his holy name by night. Let your hearts rejoice.
Mira cuán grandes son los convenios del Señor, y cuán grande es su bondad hacia los hijos de los hombres. Por su grandeza, gracia y misericordia, nos ha prometido que nuestros descendientes no serán destruidos completamente en lo físico, sino que los preservará. En generaciones futuras, llegarán a ser una rama justa de la casa de Israel.
And behold how great the covenants of the Lord, and how great his condescensions unto the children of men; and because of his greatness, and his grace and mercy, he has promised unto us that our seed shall not utterly be destroyed, according to the flesh, but that he would preserve them; and in future generations they shall become a righteous branch unto the house of Israel.
Ahora, mis hermanos, quiero decirles más, pero mañana les contaré el resto de mi mensaje. Amén.
And now, my brethren, I would speak unto you more; but on the morrow I will declare unto you the remainder of my words. Amen.
