Capítulo 7

Resumen

Jacob cita a Isaías, quien enseña que el sufrimiento de Israel se debe a sus propios pecados, pero que Dios tiene poder para redimirlos; anima a la fidelidad y advierte contra confiar en la propia sabiduría.

Así dice el Señor: ¿Te he apartado yo, o te he rechazado para siempre? ¿Dónde está el certificado de divorcio de tu madre? ¿A quién te he enviado lejos, o a cuál de mis acreedores te he vendido? Por tus pecados te has vendido a ti mismo, y por tus transgresiones tu madre ha sido enviada lejos.

Yea, for thus saith the Lord: Have I put thee away, or have I cast thee off forever? For thus saith the Lord: Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement? To whom have I put thee away, or to which of my creditors have I sold you? Yea, to whom have I sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

Cuando vine, no había nadie; cuando llamé, nadie respondió. Oh casa de Israel, ¿acaso es muy corta mi mano para redimir, o no tengo poder para librar? Con mi palabra seco el mar, convierto los ríos en desierto, y sus peces apestan porque las aguas se han secado, y mueren de sed.

Wherefore, when I came, there was no man; when I called, yea, there was none to answer. O house of Israel, is my hand shortened at all that it cannot redeem, or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make their rivers a wilderness and their fish to stink because the waters are dried up, and they die because of thirst.

Yo cubro los cielos de oscuridad y hago del cilicio su vestidura.

I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.

El Señor Dios me ha dado la lengua de los sabios, para que sepa cómo hablarte una palabra oportuna, oh casa de Israel. Cuando estás cansado, él despierta mañana tras mañana. Él despierta mi oído para oír como los sabios.

The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season unto thee, O house of Israel. When ye are weary he waketh morning by morning. He waketh mine ear to hear as the learned.

El Señor Dios ha abierto mi oído, y no fui rebelde, ni me aparté.

The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

Di mi espalda a los que me golpeaban, y mis mejillas a los que me arrancaban la barba. No escondí mi rostro de la vergüenza ni de los que me escupían.

I gave my back to the smiter, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair. I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

El Señor Dios me ayudará, así que no me confundiré. He puesto mi rostro como piedra, y sé que no seré avergonzado.

For the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded. Therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

El Señor está cerca y él me justifica. ¿Quién discutirá conmigo? Pongámonos de pie juntos. ¿Quién es mi adversario? Que se acerque a mí, y yo lo heriré con la fuerza de mis palabras.

And the Lord is near, and he justifieth me. Who will contend with me? Let us stand together. Who is mine adversary? Let him come near me, and I will smite him with the strength of my mouth.

El Señor Dios me ayudará. Cualquiera que me condene se gastará como una prenda de ropa, y las polillas se los comerán.

For the Lord God will help me. And all they who shall condemn me, behold, all they shall wax old as a garment, and the moth shall eat them up.

¿Quién de ustedes teme al Señor y obedece la voz de su siervo, pero anda en tinieblas y no tiene luz?

Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness and hath no light?

Todos ustedes que encienden fuegos y se rodean de chispas, caminen a la luz de su propio fuego y de las chispas que han encendido. Esto recibirán de mí: se acostarán en dolor.

Behold all ye that kindle fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks, walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks which ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand—ye shall lie down in sorrow.
