Resumen
Jesús enseña sobre dar, orar y ayunar con sinceridad, advierte contra servir a las riquezas y anima a confiar en Dios para las necesidades diarias, buscando primero Su reino.
De cierto te digo que quiero que des a los pobres; pero ten cuidado de no dar delante de los demás solo para que ellos te vean; de lo contrario, no recibirás recompensa de tu Padre que está en los cielos.
Verily, verily, I say that I would that ye should do alms unto the poor; but take heed that ye do not your alms before men to be seen of them; otherwise ye have no reward of your Father who is in heaven.
Así que cuando des a los pobres, no lo anuncies con trompetas como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser honrados por los demás. Te aseguro que ellos ya han recibido su recompensa.
Therefore, when ye shall do your alms do not sound a trumpet before you, as will hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
Pero cuando des a los pobres, no dejes que tu mano izquierda sepa lo que hace tu mano derecha.
But when thou doest alms let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth;
Para que tu ofrenda sea en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará en público.
That thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself shall reward thee openly.
Y cuando ores, no seas como los hipócritas, porque a ellos les gusta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles para ser vistos por los demás. Te aseguro que ya tienen su recompensa.
And when thou prayest thou shalt not do as the hypocrites, for they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
Pero cuando ores, entra en tu cuarto, y después de cerrar la puerta, ora a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Cuando ores, no uses repeticiones sin sentido como lo hacen los que no creen, porque ellos piensan que serán escuchados por decir muchas palabras.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Así que no seas como ellos, porque tu Padre sabe lo que necesitas antes de que se lo pidas.
Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him.
Ora así: Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Que se haga tu voluntad en la tierra así como en el cielo.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Y perdónanos nuestras deudas, así como nosotros perdonamos a los que nos deben.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Y no nos dejes caer en tentación, sino líbranos del mal.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Porque tuyo es el reino, el poder y la gloria, por siempre. Amén.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Si tú perdonas a los demás sus ofensas, tu Padre celestial también te perdonará a ti.
For, if ye forgive men their trespasses your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
Pero si no perdonas las ofensas de los demás, tu Padre no perdonará tus ofensas.
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Además, cuando ayunes, no seas como los hipócritas que ponen cara triste. Ellos desfiguran su rostro para que otros vean que están ayunando. Te aseguro que ya han recibido su recompensa.
Moreover, when ye fast be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
Pero cuando ayunes, unge tu cabeza y lava tu rostro;
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
No hagas evidente a los demás que estás ayunando, sino hazlo para tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en lo secreto, te recompensará en público.
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
No acumulen tesoros para ustedes en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido destruyen, y donde los ladrones entran y roban.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and thieves break through and steal;
Más bien, acumulen para ustedes tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido destruyen, y donde los ladrones no entran ni roban.
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
Tu corazón estará donde esté tu tesoro.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
El ojo es la luz del cuerpo; así que si tu ojo está sano, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz.
The light of the body is the eye; if, therefore, thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Pero si tu ojo es malo, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de oscuridad. Y si la luz que hay en ti en realidad es oscuridad, ¡qué grande será esa oscuridad!
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Nadie puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o será leal a uno y despreciará al otro. No puedes servir a Dios y a las riquezas.
No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon.
Cuando Jesús terminó de hablar, miró a los doce que había escogido y les dijo: "Recuerden las palabras que les he dicho. Ustedes son los que he elegido para servir a este pueblo. Por eso les digo, no se preocupen por su vida—qué van a comer o beber—ni por su cuerpo, qué van a vestir. ¿No es la vida más que la comida, y el cuerpo más que la ropa?"
And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked upon the twelve whom he had chosen, and said unto them: Remember the words which I have spoken. For behold, ye are they whom I have chosen to minister unto this people. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Mira las aves del cielo; ellas no siembran, ni cosechan, ni guardan comida en graneros, pero tu Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No vales tú mucho más que ellas?
Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
¿Quién de ustedes puede añadir una sola codo a su estatura solo por preocuparse?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
¿Y por qué te preocupas por la ropa? Fíjate en los lirios del campo, cómo crecen; no trabajan ni hilan su ropa;
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin;
Te digo que ni siquiera Salomón, con toda su gloria, se vistió como uno de estos.
And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these.
Si Dios viste así la hierba del campo, que hoy está y mañana se echa al horno, ¿no te vestirá mucho más a ti, si no te falta la fe?
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, even so will he clothe you, if ye are not of little faith.
Así que no te preocupes, diciendo: “¿Qué comeremos?” o “¿Qué beberemos?” o “¿Con qué nos vestiremos?”
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Tu Padre Celestial sabe que necesitas todas estas cosas.
For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Mas busca primero el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas te serán añadidas.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Así que no te preocupes por el día de mañana, porque el mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. Cada día tiene ya sus propios problemas.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof.
