Alma reflexiona sobre su deseo de predicar con poder angelical, aprende a aceptar su llamamiento y se regocija en el éxito de los esfuerzos misionales de él y sus hermanos.
Ojalá fuera un ángel y pudiera tener el deseo de mi corazón: salir y hablar con la voz de Dios, con una voz tan poderosa que hiciera temblar la tierra, y llamar a todos al arrepentimiento.
O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the earth, and cry repentance unto every people!
Ojalá pudiera declarar a cada persona, con una voz como trueno, la necesidad del arrepentimiento y el plan de redención, para que se arrepientan y vengan a nuestro Dios, y ya no haya más tristeza en toda la tierra.
Yea, I would declare unto every soul, as with the voice of thunder, repentance and the plan of redemption, that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon all the face of the earth.
Pero soy un hombre, y peco en mis deseos; porque debería estar contento con las cosas que el Señor me ha dado.
But behold, I am a man, and do sin in my wish; for I ought to be content with the things which the Lord hath allotted unto me.
No debo permitir que mis deseos desafíen el firme decreto de un Dios justo, porque sé que tú das a las personas según sus deseos, ya sea para muerte o para vida. Sé que tú asignas y estableces decretos inmutables para las personas según sus voluntades, ya sea que conduzcan a la salvación o a la destrucción.
I ought not to harrow up in my desires, the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills, whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction.
Sé que el bien y el mal han sido presentados a todos; cualquiera que no sepa distinguir entre el bien y el mal es inocente. Pero para aquellos que conocen el bien y el mal, reciben según sus deseos—ya sea que deseen el bien o el mal, la vida o la muerte, el gozo o el remordimiento de conciencia.
Yea, and I know that good and evil have come before all men; he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless; but he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.
Ahora que sé estas cosas, ¿por qué debería desear algo más que hacer la obra a la que he sido llamado?
Now, seeing that I know these things, why should I desire more than to perform the work to which I have been called?
¿Por qué debería desear ser un ángel para poder hablarle a la gente en toda la tierra?
Why should I desire that I were an angel, that I could speak unto all the ends of the earth?
El Señor concede a todas las naciones, en su propio idioma, enseñar su palabra con sabiduría, dándoles todo lo que Él considera apropiado que tengan. Vemos que el Señor da consejo con sabiduría, conforme a lo que es justo y verdadero.
For behold, the Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have; therefore we see that the Lord doth counsel in wisdom, according to that which is just and true.
Yo sé lo que el Señor me ha mandado, y me siento orgulloso de ello. No me enorgullezco de mí mismo, sino de lo que el Señor me ha mandado. Este es mi orgullo: poder ser un instrumento en las manos de Dios para ayudar a alguien a arrepentirse. Esta es mi alegría.
I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.
Cuando veo a muchos de mis hermanos verdaderamente arrepentidos y acercándose al Señor su Dios, mi alma se llena de gozo. Recuerdo lo que el Señor ha hecho por mí, que ha escuchado mi oración, y recuerdo su brazo misericordioso que extendió hacia mí.
And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea, even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.
También recuerdo el cautiverio de mis padres, porque sé que el Señor los libró de la esclavitud, y así estableció su iglesia. El Señor Dios, el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob, los libró de la esclavitud.
Yea, and I also remember the captivity of my fathers; for I surely do know that the Lord did deliver them out of bondage, and by this did establish his church; yea, the Lord God, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, did deliver them out of bondage.
Siempre he recordado el cautiverio de mis padres, y ese mismo Dios que los libró de las manos de los egipcios también los liberó de la esclavitud.
Yea, I have always remembered the captivity of my fathers; and that same God who delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians did deliver them out of bondage.
Ese mismo Dios estableció su iglesia entre ellos, y ese mismo Dios me ha llamado con un llamamiento sagrado para predicar la palabra a este pueblo, y me ha dado mucho éxito, lo cual me llena de gozo.
Yea, and that same God did establish his church among them; yea, and that same God hath called me by a holy calling, to preach the word unto this people, and hath given me much success, in the which my joy is full.
No me regocijo solo por mi propio éxito; mi gozo es aún mayor por el éxito de mis hermanos que subieron a la tierra de Nephi.
But I do not joy in my own success alone, but my joy is more full because of the success of my brethren, who have been up to the land of Nephi.
Han trabajado muy duro y han dado mucho fruto, ¡y cuán grande será su recompensa!
Behold, they have labored exceedingly, and have brought forth much fruit; and how great shall be their reward!
Cuando pienso en el éxito de mis hermanos, siento tanta alegría que es como si mi alma se elevara fuera de mi cuerpo.
Now, when I think of the success of these my brethren my soul is carried away, even to the separation of it from the body, as it were, so great is my joy.
Ahora, que Dios conceda que mis hermanos puedan sentarse en el reino de Dios, y también que todos los que son fruto de sus labores nunca tengan que salir de allí, sino que puedan alabarle para siempre. Que Dios lo haga según mis palabras, tal como lo he dicho. Amén.
And now may God grant unto these, my brethren, that they may sit down in the kingdom of God; yea, and also all those who are the fruit of their labors that they may go no more out, but that they may praise him forever. And may God grant that it may be done according to my words, even as I have spoken. Amen.
