Resumen

Alma enseña que las personas pueden adorar a Dios en cualquier lugar y cita a profetas como Zenós, Zenoc y Moisés para mostrar que la fe en el Hijo de Dios trae salvación y crecimiento espiritual.

Después de que Alma terminó de hablar, el pueblo le envió un mensaje preguntándole si debían creer en un solo Dios para recibir el fruto del que él habló, o cómo debían plantar la semilla, o la palabra que mencionó, la cual dijo que debía ser plantada en sus corazones, o cómo debían empezar a ejercer su fe.

Now after Alma had spoken these words, they sent forth unto him desiring to know whether they should believe in one God, that they might obtain this fruit of which he had spoken, or how they should plant the seed, or the word of which he had spoken, which he said must be planted in their hearts; or in what manner they should begin to exercise their faith.

Alma les dijo: Ustedes han dicho que no pueden adorar a su Dios porque han sido expulsados de sus sinagogas. Pero yo les digo, si piensan que no pueden adorar a Dios, están muy equivocados, y deberían estudiar las escrituras; si creen que ellas les han enseñado esto, no las entienden.

And Alma said unto them: Behold, ye have said that ye could not worship your God because ye are cast out of your synagogues. But behold, I say unto you, if ye suppose that ye cannot worship God, ye do greatly err, and ye ought to search the scriptures; if ye suppose that they have taught you this, ye do not understand them.

Do ye remember to have read what Zenos, the prophet of old, has said concerning prayer or worship?

Él dijo: "Tú eres misericordioso, oh Dios, porque has escuchado mi oración, aun cuando estaba en el desierto. Fuiste misericordioso cuando oré por mis enemigos, y los volviste a mi favor."

For he said: Thou art merciful, O God, for thou hast heard my prayer, even when I was in the wilderness; yea, thou wast merciful when I prayed concerning those who were mine enemies, and thou didst turn them to me.

Oh Dios, tú fuiste misericordioso conmigo cuando clamé a ti en mi campo; cuando oré a ti, me escuchaste.

Yea, O God, and thou wast merciful unto me when I did cry unto thee in my field; when I did cry unto thee in my prayer, and thou didst hear me.

Y otra vez, Dios, cuando regresé a mi casa, tú me escuchaste en mi oración.

Y cuando me dirigí a mi aposento, oh Señor, y oré a ti, me escuchaste.

And when I did turn unto my closet, O Lord, and prayed unto thee, thou didst hear me.

Tú eres misericordioso con tus hijos cuando claman a ti, deseando ser escuchados por ti y no por otras personas, y tú los escucharás.

Yea, thou art merciful unto thy children when they cry unto thee, to be heard of thee and not of men, and thou wilt hear them.

Oh Dios, tú has sido misericordioso conmigo y has escuchado mis clamores en medio de tus congregaciones.

Yea, O God, thou hast been merciful unto me, and heard my cries in the midst of thy congregations.

También me escuchaste cuando fui expulsado y despreciado por mis enemigos; oíste mis clamores y te enojaste con mis enemigos, y los visitaste en tu ira con rápida destrucción.

Yea, and thou hast also heard me when I have been cast out and have been despised by mine enemies; yea, thou didst hear my cries, and wast angry with mine enemies, and thou didst visit them in thine anger with speedy destruction.

Me escuchaste por mis aflicciones y mi sinceridad; y es por tu Hijo que has sido tan misericordioso conmigo. Por eso, clamaré a ti en todas mis aflicciones, porque mi gozo está en ti. Has apartado tus juicios de mí por causa de tu Hijo.

And thou didst hear me because of mine afflictions and my sincerity; and it is because of thy Son that thou hast been thus merciful unto me, therefore I will cry unto thee in all mine afflictions, for in thee is my joy; for thou hast turned thy judgments away from me, because of thy Son.

Alma les dijo: “¿Creen en las escrituras que fueron escritas por aquellos de tiempos antiguos?”

And now Alma said unto them: Do ye believe those scriptures which have been written by them of old?

Si lo haces, debes creer lo que dijo Zenos, porque él dijo: "Has apartado tus juicios por causa de tu Hijo."

Behold, if ye do, ye must believe what Zenos said; for, behold he said: Thou hast turned away thy judgments because of thy Son.

Mis hermanos, ¿han leído las escrituras? Si lo han hecho, ¿cómo pueden no creer en el Hijo de Dios?

Now behold, my brethren, I would ask if ye have read the scriptures? If ye have, how can ye disbelieve on the Son of God?

No solo Zenos habló de estas cosas; Zenock también habló de ellas.

For it is not written that Zenos alone spake of these things, but Zenock also spake of these things—

Él dijo: "Estás enojado, Señor, con este pueblo porque no quieren comprender las misericordias que les has dado por causa de tu Hijo."

For behold, he said: Thou art angry, O Lord, with this people, because they will not understand thy mercies which thou hast bestowed upon them because of thy Son.

Ahora bien, hermanos míos, ustedes ven que otro profeta de la antigüedad testificó acerca del Hijo de Dios, y como el pueblo se negó a comprender sus palabras, lo apedrearon hasta matarlo.

And now, my brethren, ye see that a second prophet of old has testified of the Son of God, and because the people would not understand his words they stoned him to death.

Pero esto no es todo; ellos no son los únicos que han hablado acerca del Hijo de Dios.

But behold, this is not all; these are not the only ones who have spoken concerning the Son of God.

Moisés habló acerca de él, y se levantó un símbolo en el desierto para que cualquiera que lo mirara pudiera vivir. Muchos miraron y vivieron.

Behold, he was spoken of by Moses; yea, and behold a type was raised up in the wilderness, that whosoever would look upon it might live. And many did look and live.

Pero pocos entendieron lo que significaban esas cosas, porque sus corazones estaban endurecidos. Muchos estaban tan endurecidos que no quisieron mirar, y por eso murieron. La razón por la que no quisieron mirar fue porque no creían que eso los sanaría.

But few understood the meaning of those things, and this because of the hardness of their hearts. But there were many who were so hardened that they would not look, therefore they perished. Now the reason they would not look is because they did not believe that it would heal them.

Mis hermanos, si pudieran ser sanados solo con mirar, ¿no mirarían de inmediato? ¿O escogerían endurecer sus corazones en incredulidad y ser perezosos, negándose a mirar y dejando que perezcan?

O my brethren, if ye could be healed by merely casting about your eyes that ye might be healed, would ye not behold quickly, or would ye rather harden your hearts in unbelief, and be slothful, that ye would not cast about your eyes, that ye might perish?

Si no es así, entonces mira a tu alrededor y empieza a creer en el Hijo de Dios: que él vendrá para redimir a su pueblo, que sufrirá y morirá para expiar sus pecados, y que resucitará de entre los muertos, lo cual traerá la resurrección para que todos comparezcan ante él y sean juzgados en el día final según sus obras.

If so, wo shall come upon you; but if not so, then cast about your eyes and begin to believe in the Son of God, that he will come to redeem his people, and that he shall suffer and die to atone for their sins; and that he shall rise again from the dead, which shall bring to pass the resurrection, that all men shall stand before him, to be judged at the last and judgment day, according to their works.

Ahora, hermanos míos, quiero que plantes esta palabra en tu corazón, y cuando empiece a crecer, aliméntala con tu fe. Se convertirá en un árbol, creciendo en ti y guiándote a la vida eterna. Entonces, que Dios te ayude a hacer ligeras tus cargas por medio del gozo de su Hijo. Todo esto puedes lograrlo si así lo decides. Amén.

And now, my brethren, I desire that ye shall plant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell even so nourish it by your faith. And behold, it will become a tree, springing up in you unto everlasting life. And then may God grant unto you that your burdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do if ye will. Amen.
