Resumen
Mormón escribe a Moroni condenando la práctica del bautismo de niños, enseñando que los pequeños están vivos en Cristo y no necesitan bautismo, y exhorta al arrepentimiento entre los nefitas.
Una carta de mi padre Mormón, escrita para mí, Moroni, poco después de que fui llamado al ministerio. Esto es lo que me escribió:
An epistle of my father Mormon, written to me, Moroni; and it was written unto me soon after my calling to the ministry. And on this wise did he write unto me, saying:

My beloved son, Moroni, I rejoice exceedingly that your Lord Jesus Christ hath been mindful of you, and hath called you to his ministry, and to his holy work.
Siempre te recuerdo en mis oraciones, pidiendo constantemente a Dios el Padre en el nombre de su Santo Hijo, Jesús, que por su infinita bondad y gracia te ayude a permanecer fiel a su nombre hasta el fin.
I am mindful of you always in my prayers, continually praying unto God the Father in the name of his Holy Child, Jesus, that he, through his infinite goodness and grace, will keep you through the endurance of faith on his name to the end.
Ahora, hijo mío, te hablo de algo que me preocupa profundamente; me duele que estén surgiendo discusiones entre ustedes.
And now, my son, I speak unto you concerning that which grieveth me exceedingly; for it grieveth me that there should disputations rise among you.
Si entiendo bien, ha habido desacuerdos entre ustedes sobre bautizar a sus niños pequeños.
For, if I have learned the truth, there have been disputations among you concerning the baptism of your little children.
Ahora, hijo mío, quiero que trabajes con diligencia para que este grave error sea quitado de entre ustedes, porque por esta razón te he escrito esta carta.
And now, my son, I desire that ye should labor diligently, that this gross error should be removed from among you; for, for this intent I have written this epistle.
Tan pronto como aprendí estas cosas de ti, le pregunté al Señor sobre ello. La palabra del Señor vino a mí por el poder del Espíritu Santo, diciendo:
For immediately after I had learned these things of you I inquired of the Lord concerning the matter. And the word of the Lord came to me by the power of the Holy Ghost, saying:
Escucha las palabras de Cristo, tu Redentor, tu Señor y tu Dios. Yo vine al mundo no para llamar a los justos, sino a los pecadores al arrepentimiento. Los que están sanos no necesitan médico, sino los que están enfermos. Los niños pequeños son inocentes, porque no son capaces de cometer pecado. La maldición de Adán es quitada de ellos por medio de mí, así que no tiene poder sobre ellos. La ley de la circuncisión es abolida en mí.
Listen to the words of Christ, your Redeemer, your Lord and your God. Behold, I came into the world not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance; the whole need no physician, but they that are sick; wherefore, little children are whole, for they are not capable of committing sin; wherefore the curse of Adam is taken from them in me, that it hath no power over them; and the law of circumcision is done away in me.
De esta manera, el Espíritu Santo me reveló la palabra de Dios. Mi amado hijo, sé que es una burla grave ante Dios que bautices a los niños pequeños.
And after this manner did the Holy Ghost manifest the word of God unto me; wherefore, my beloved son, I know that it is solemn mockery before God, that ye should baptize little children.
Te digo que debes enseñar esto: el arrepentimiento y el bautismo a aquellos que son responsables y capaces de pecar. Enseña a los padres que deben arrepentirse, bautizarse y humillarse como sus pequeños hijos, y todos serán salvos junto con sus hijos pequeños.
Behold I say unto you that this thing shall ye teach—repentance and baptism unto those who are accountable and capable of committing sin; yea, teach parents that they must repent and be baptized, and humble themselves as their little children, and they shall all be saved with their little children.
Sus niños pequeños no necesitan arrepentirse ni bautizarse. El bautismo es para quienes se arrepienten, para guardar los mandamientos y recibir el perdón de los pecados.
And their little children need no repentance, neither baptism. Behold, baptism is unto repentance to the fulfilling the commandments unto the remission of sins.
Los niños pequeños están vivos en Cristo, incluso desde la fundación del mundo. Si esto no fuera verdad, Dios sería parcial, cambiante y mostraría favoritismo, porque muchos niños pequeños han muerto sin bautismo.
But little children are alive in Christ, even from the foundation of the world; if not so, God is a partial God, and also a changeable God, and a respecter to persons; for how many little children have died without baptism!
Así que, si los niños pequeños no pudieran ser salvos sin el bautismo, habrían ido a un infierno sin fin.
Wherefore, if little children could not be saved without baptism, these must have gone to an endless hell.
Te digo que cualquiera que piense que los niños pequeños necesitan el bautismo está lleno de amargura y atado por el pecado, porque no tiene fe, ni esperanza, ni caridad. Si muere manteniendo esta creencia, debe descender al infierno.
Behold I say unto you, that he that supposeth that little children need baptism is in the gall of bitterness and in the bonds of iniquity, for he hath neither faith, hope, nor charity; wherefore, should he be cut off while in the thought, he must go down to hell.
Es una gran maldad pensar que Dios salva a un niño por el bautismo y que otro debe perderse porque no ha sido bautizado.
For awful is the wickedness to suppose that God saveth one child because of baptism, and the other must perish because he hath no baptism.
Ay de aquellos que pervierten los caminos del Señor de esta manera, porque serán destruidos a menos que se arrepientan. Hablo con valentía, con autoridad de Dios, y no tengo miedo de lo que cualquiera pueda hacer, porque el amor perfecto echa fuera todo temor.
Wo be unto them that shall pervert the ways of the Lord after this manner, for they shall perish except they repent. Behold, I speak with boldness, having authority from God; and I fear not what man can do; for perfect love casteth out all fear.
Estoy lleno de caridad, que es amor eterno. Todos los hijos son iguales para mí, y amo a los niños pequeños con un amor perfecto. Todos son iguales y pueden recibir la salvación.
And I am filled with charity, which is everlasting love; wherefore, all children are alike unto me; wherefore, I love little children with a perfect love; and they are all alike and partakers of salvation.
Sé que Dios no es parcial ni cambiante; él es inmutable desde la eternidad hasta la eternidad.
For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.
Los niños pequeños no pueden arrepentirse; así que es sumamente malvado negarles las puras misericordias de Dios, porque todos ellos viven en Él gracias a su misericordia.
Little children cannot repent; wherefore, it is awful wickedness to deny the pure mercies of God unto them, for they are all alive in him because of his mercy.
Cualquiera que diga que los niños pequeños necesitan el bautismo niega la misericordia de Cristo y rechaza su expiación y el poder de su redención.
And he that saith that little children need baptism denieth the mercies of Christ, and setteth at naught the atonement of him and the power of his redemption.
Ay de esas personas, porque están en peligro de muerte, infierno y tormento eterno. Digo esto con valentía porque Dios me lo ha mandado. Escúchalos y pon atención, o ellos serán testigos contra ti ante el tribunal de Cristo.
Wo unto such, for they are in danger of death, hell, and an endless torment. I speak it boldly; God hath commanded me. Listen unto them and give heed, or they stand against you at the judgment-seat of Christ.
Todos los niños pequeños están vivos en Cristo, así como todos los que no tienen la ley. El poder de la redención llega a todos los que no tienen ley; así que, cualquiera que no es condenado, o que no está bajo condenación, no puede arrepentirse, y para esas personas, el bautismo no sirve de nada.
For behold that all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all them that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent; and unto such baptism availeth nothing—
Es burlarse de Dios negar la misericordia de Cristo y el poder de su Santo Espíritu, y poner tu confianza en obras muertas.
But it is mockery before God, denying the mercies of Christ, and the power of his Holy Spirit, and putting trust in dead works.
Hijo mío, esto no debe suceder; el arrepentimiento es para aquellos que están bajo condenación y bajo la maldición de una ley quebrantada.
Behold, my son, this thing ought not to be; for repentance is unto them that are under condemnation and under the curse of a broken law.
El primer resultado del arrepentimiento es el bautismo, y el bautismo viene por la fe al guardar los mandamientos, y guardar los mandamientos trae el perdón de los pecados.
And the first fruits of repentance is baptism; and baptism cometh by faith unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth remission of sins;
Y la remisión de los pecados trae mansedumbre y humildad; y por causa de la mansedumbre y la humildad, el Espíritu Santo nos visita. El Consolador nos llena de esperanza y amor perfecto, y este amor permanece mediante la oración constante hasta que llegue el fin, cuando todos los santos vivirán con Dios.
And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.
Hijo mío, te escribiré de nuevo si no salgo pronto a enfrentar a los lamanitas. El orgullo de esta nación, o del pueblo de los nefitas, ha provocado su destrucción a menos que se arrepientan.
Behold, my son, I will write unto you again if I go not out soon against the Lamanites. Behold, the pride of this nation, or the people of the Nephites, hath proven their destruction except they should repent.
Ora por ellos, hijo mío, para que se arrepientan. Pero temo que el Espíritu ha dejado de contender con ellos; y en esta parte de la tierra también están tratando de destruir todo poder y autoridad que viene de Dios, y están negando al Espíritu Santo.
Pray for them, my son, that repentance may come unto them. But behold, I fear lest the Spirit hath ceased striving with them; and in this part of the land they are also seeking to put down all power and authority which cometh from God; and they are denying the Holy Ghost.
Después de rechazar tan gran conocimiento, hijo mío, pronto serán destruidos, cumpliendo así las profecías pronunciadas por los profetas y las palabras de nuestro propio Salvador.
And after rejecting so great a knowledge, my son, they must perish soon, unto the fulfilling of the prophecies which were spoken by the prophets, as well as the words of our Savior himself.
Adiós, hijo mío, hasta que te vuelva a escribir o te vea de nuevo. Amén.
Farewell, my son, until I shall write unto you, or shall meet you again. Amen.
