Resumen

Jacob exhorta a los puros de corazón a buscar a Dios y advierte a los que no se arrepienten sobre las consecuencias, condenando el orgullo y la inmoralidad, e instruye a no juzgar a los lamanitas por sus tradiciones o apariencia.

Yo, Jacob, te hablo a ti que eres puro de corazón. Vuélvete a Dios con una mente firme, ora a Él con gran fe, y Él te consolará en tus dificultades, te defenderá y hará justicia contra quienes intenten destruirte.

But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction.

Todos ustedes que son puros de corazón, levanten la cabeza y reciban la palabra agradable de Dios, y deleítense en su amor; pueden hacerlo, si su mente es firme, para siempre.

O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever.

Pero ¡ay de ustedes que no son puros de corazón, que hoy están impuros ante Dios! A menos que se arrepientan, la tierra será maldita por causa de ustedes. Los lamanitas, que no son impuros como ustedes, aunque están bajo una maldición severa, los castigarán hasta destruirlos.

But, wo, wo, unto you that are not pure in heart, that are filthy this day before God; for except ye repent the land is cursed for your sakes; and the Lamanites, which are not filthy like unto you, nevertheless they are cursed with a sore cursing, shall scourge you even unto destruction.

El tiempo se acerca en que, a menos que te arrepientas, ellos tomarán posesión de tu tierra heredada, y el Señor Dios apartará a los justos de en medio de ti.

And the time speedily cometh, that except ye repent they shall possess the land of your inheritance, and the Lord God will lead away the righteous out from among you.

Los lamanitas, tus hermanos, a quienes odias por su impureza y por la maldición que ha caído sobre su piel, son más justos que tú. Ellos no han olvidado el mandamiento del Señor, que fue dado a nuestro padre: que debían tener solo una esposa, y ninguna concubina, y que no debía haber fornicaciones entre ellos.

Behold, the Lamanites your brethren, whom ye hate because of their filthiness and the cursing which hath come upon their skins, are more righteous than you; for they have not forgotten the commandment of the Lord, which was given unto our father—that they should have save it were one wife, and concubines they should have none, and there should not be whoredoms committed among them.

Ellos guardan este mandamiento, y porque lo hacen, el Señor Dios no los destruirá, sino que les mostrará misericordia. Un día, llegarán a ser un pueblo bendecido.

And now, this commandment they observe to keep; wherefore, because of this observance, in keeping this commandment, the Lord God will not destroy them, but will be merciful unto them; and one day they shall become a blessed people.

Sus esposos aman a sus esposas, y sus esposas aman a sus esposos; tanto esposos como esposas aman a sus hijos. Su incredulidad y odio hacia ti es por los pecados de sus padres. Entonces, ¿en qué eres tú mejor que ellos ante los ojos de tu gran Creador?

Behold, their husbands love their wives, and their wives love their husbands; and their husbands and their wives love their children; and their unbelief and their hatred towards you is because of the iniquity of their fathers; wherefore, how much better are you than they, in the sight of your great Creator?

Mis hermanos, temo que a menos que te arrepientas de tus pecados, la piel de ellos será más blanca que la tuya cuando seas llevado con ellos ante el trono de Dios.

O my brethren, I fear that unless ye shall repent of your sins that their skins will be whiter than yours, when ye shall be brought with them before the throne of God.

Te doy un mandamiento de Dios: no los insultes por la oscuridad de su piel, ni los insultes por su impureza. Más bien, recuerda tu propia impureza y recuerda que la de ellos vino por causa de sus padres.

Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, which is the word of God, that ye revile no more against them because of the darkness of their skins; neither shall ye revile against them because of their filthiness; but ye shall remember your own filthiness, and remember that their filthiness came because of their fathers.

Recuerda a tus hijos, cómo has herido sus corazones por el ejemplo que les has dado; y también recuerda que por tu maldad, puedes llevar a tus hijos a la destrucción, y sus pecados pueden ser puestos sobre ti en el día final.

Wherefore, ye shall remember your children, how that ye have grieved their hearts because of the example that ye have set before them; and also, remember that ye may, because of your filthiness, bring your children unto destruction, and their sins be heaped upon your heads at the last day.

Mis hermanos, escuchen mis palabras; despierten las capacidades de sus almas; sacúdanse para poder despertar del sueño de la muerte; libérense de los dolores del infierno para que no lleguen a ser ángeles del diablo, para ser arrojados en ese lago de fuego y azufre, que es la segunda muerte.

O my brethren, hearken unto my words; arouse the faculties of your souls; shake yourselves that ye may awake from the slumber of death; and loose yourselves from the pains of hell that ye may not become angels to the devil, to be cast into that lake of fire and brimstone which is the second death.

Ahora bien, yo, Jacob, hablé muchas otras cosas al pueblo de Nefi, advirtiéndoles contra la fornicación, la lujuria y toda clase de pecado, enseñándoles acerca de las terribles consecuencias de estas cosas.

And now I, Jacob, spake many more things unto the people of Nephi, warning them against fornication and lasciviousness, and every kind of sin, telling them the awful consequences of them.

Ni siquiera una centésima parte de lo que hizo este pueblo, que ahora se estaba multiplicando, puede ser escrita en estas planchas; pero muchas de sus acciones, incluyendo sus guerras, sus conflictos y los reinados de sus reyes, están registradas en las planchas mayores.

And a hundredth part of the proceedings of this people, which now began to be numerous, cannot be written upon these plates; but many of their proceedings are written upon the larger plates, and their wars, and their contentions, and the reigns of their kings.
