Resumen

Jacob explica que los profetas y su pueblo tuvieron fe en Cristo mucho antes de Su venida. Enseña la importancia de la revelación y la humildad ante Dios, y advierte contra rechazar las verdades sencillas, usando la metáfora de Cristo como la piedra angular rechazada.

Ahora yo, Jacob, he enseñado mucho a mi pueblo hablando, pero solo puedo escribir una pequeña parte de lo que he dicho porque es difícil grabar nuestras palabras en las planchas, y sabemos que lo que escribimos en las planchas debe permanecer.

Now behold, it came to pass that I, Jacob, having ministered much unto my people in word, (and I cannot write but a little of my words, because of the difficulty of engraving our words upon plates) and we know that the things which we write upon plates must remain;

Todo lo que escribamos en materiales que no sean planchas se perderá y desaparecerá; pero podemos escribir unas pocas palabras en planchas, lo que dará a nuestros hijos y a nuestros amados hermanos un poco de conocimiento sobre nosotros o sobre sus antepasados.

But whatsoever things we write upon anything save it be upon plates must perish and vanish away; but we can write a few words upon plates, which will give our children, and also our beloved brethren, a small degree of knowledge concerning us, or concerning their fathers—

Nos regocijamos en esto, y nos esforzamos mucho por grabar estas palabras en planchas, esperando que nuestros amados hermanos y nuestros hijos las reciban con corazones agradecidos y las lean para que puedan aprender con gozo, y no con tristeza ni desprecio, acerca de sus primeros padres.

Now in this thing we do rejoice; and we labor diligently to engraven these words upon plates, hoping that our beloved brethren and our children will receive them with thankful hearts, and look upon them that they may learn with joy and not with sorrow, neither with contempt, concerning their first parents.

Hemos escrito estas cosas para que sepas que conocíamos a Cristo y teníamos esperanza en su gloria muchos cientos de años antes de que él viniera. No solo teníamos esperanza en su gloria, sino también todos los santos profetas que vinieron antes de nosotros.

For, for this intent have we written these things, that they may know that we knew of Christ, and we had a hope of his glory many hundred years before his coming; and not only we ourselves had a hope of his glory, but also all the holy prophets which were before us.

Ellos creían en Cristo y adoraban al Padre en su nombre, y nosotros también adoramos al Padre en su nombre. Guardamos la ley de Moisés por este motivo—ella dirige nuestras almas hacia él. Por eso, para nosotros es santificada para justicia, así como lo fue para Abraham en el desierto cuando obedeció el mandamiento de Dios de ofrecer a su hijo Isaac, lo cual es un símbolo de Dios y su Unigénito.

Behold, they believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father in his name. And for this intent we keep the law of Moses, it pointing our souls to him; and for this cause it is sanctified unto us for righteousness, even as it was accounted unto Abraham in the wilderness to be obedient unto the commands of God in offering up his son Isaac, which is a similitude of God and his Only Begotten Son.

Estudiamos las palabras de los profetas, y recibimos muchas revelaciones y tenemos el espíritu de profecía. Con todos estos testigos, obtenemos esperanza, y nuestra fe se vuelve tan fuerte que realmente podemos mandar en el nombre de Jesús y hasta los árboles, las montañas o las olas del mar nos obedecen.

Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea.

Sin embargo, el Señor Dios nos muestra nuestra debilidad para que entendamos que es por su gracia y su gran bondad hacia los hijos de los hombres que tenemos el poder de hacer estas cosas.

Nevertheless, the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescensions unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things.

Las obras del Señor son grandes y maravillosas. La profundidad de Sus misterios es inescrutable, y es imposible que las personas comprendan todos Sus caminos. Nadie conoce Sus caminos a menos que les sean revelados, así que, hermanos, no desprecien las revelaciones de Dios.

Behold, great and marvelous are the works of the Lord. How unsearchable are the depths of the mysteries of him; and it is impossible that man should find out all his ways. And no man knoweth of his ways save it be revealed unto him; wherefore, brethren, despise not the revelations of God.

Por el poder de su palabra, el hombre vino a la tierra, y la tierra misma fue creada por el poder de su palabra. Si Dios puede hablar y el mundo existe, y hablar y el hombre es creado, entonces, ¿por qué no podría también mandar a la tierra o a cualquier cosa que haya hecho en ella, según su voluntad y deseo?

For behold, by the power of his word man came upon the face of the earth, which earth was created by the power of his word. Wherefore, if God being able to speak and the world was, and to speak and man was created, O then, why not able to command the earth, or the workmanship of his hands upon the face of it, according to his will and pleasure?

Así que, hermanos, no traten de aconsejar al Señor, sino reciban dirección de él. Ustedes saben que él da consejo con sabiduría, justicia y gran misericordia en todo lo que hace.

Wherefore, brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand. For behold, ye yourselves know that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all his works.

Así que, queridos hermanos y hermanas, reconcíliense con Dios por medio de la expiación de Cristo, su Hijo Unigénito, y puedan recibir una resurrección por el poder de la resurrección de Cristo, y ser presentados como los primeros frutos de Cristo ante Dios, teniendo fe y obteniendo una buena esperanza de gloria en él antes de que se manifieste en la carne.

Wherefore, beloved brethren, be reconciled unto him through the atonement of Christ, his Only Begotten Son, and ye may obtain a resurrection, according to the power of the resurrection which is in Christ, and be presented as the first-fruits of Christ unto God, having faith, and obtained a good hope of glory in him before he manifesteth himself in the flesh.

Así que ahora, mis amados, no se sorprendan de que les esté diciendo estas cosas. ¿Por qué no habríamos de hablar de la expiación de Cristo y buscar un conocimiento perfecto de Él, así como procuramos entender la resurrección y el mundo venidero?

And now, beloved, marvel not that I tell you these things; for why not speak of the atonement of Christ, and attain to a perfect knowledge of him, as to attain to the knowledge of a resurrection and the world to come?

Mis hermanos, cualquiera que profetice debe hacerlo de manera que las personas puedan entender, porque el Espíritu habla la verdad y no miente. Habla de las cosas tal como realmente son y como realmente serán, y estas cosas se nos muestran claramente para la salvación de nuestras almas. No somos los únicos testigos de estas cosas, porque Dios también las habló a profetas en el pasado.

Behold, my brethren, he that prophesieth, let him prophesy to the understanding of men; for the Spirit speaketh the truth and lieth not. Wherefore, it speaketh of things as they really are, and of things as they really will be; wherefore, these things are manifested unto us plainly, for the salvation of our souls. But behold, we are not witnesses alone in these things; for God also spake them unto prophets of old.

Los judíos eran un pueblo terco; rechazaron las enseñanzas sencillas, mataron a los profetas y buscaban cosas que no podían entender. Por su ceguera, que vino de buscar más allá de la meta, tuvieron que caer. Dios les quitó sus enseñanzas sencillas y les dio muchas cosas que no pueden entender, porque eso era lo que querían. Y como lo deseaban, Dios lo permitió, para que tropezaran.

But behold, the Jews were a stiffnecked people; and they despised the words of plainness, and killed the prophets, and sought for things that they could not understand. Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall; for God hath taken away his plainness from them, and delivered unto them many things which they cannot understand, because they desired it. And because they desired it God hath done it, that they may stumble.

Ahora yo, Jacob, soy guiado por el Espíritu para profetizar, porque siento por medio de las manifestaciones del Espíritu en mí que, a causa de su tropiezo, los judíos rechazarán la piedra sobre la cual podrían haber edificado para tener un fundamento seguro.

And now I, Jacob, am led on by the Spirit unto prophesying; for I perceive by the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that by the stumbling of the Jews they will reject the stone upon which they might build and have safe foundation.

Según las escrituras, esta piedra llegará a ser la grande, la última y la única base segura sobre la cual los judíos pueden edificar.

But behold, according to the scriptures, this stone shall become the great, and the last, and the only sure foundation, upon which the Jews can build.

Entonces, mis queridos amigos, ¿cómo es posible que aquellos que han rechazado el fundamento seguro puedan alguna vez edificar sobre él, para que llegue a ser la piedra angular para ellos?

And now, my beloved, how is it possible that these, after having rejected the sure foundation, can ever build upon it, that it may become the head of their corner?

Mis amados hermanos, voy a explicarte este misterio, a menos que de alguna manera me aparte de mi firmeza en el Espíritu y tropiece por estar demasiado preocupado por ti.

Behold, my beloved brethren, I will unfold this mystery unto you; if I do not, by any means, get shaken from my firmness in the Spirit, and stumble because of my over anxiety for you.
