Resumen
Abinadí es protegido por Dios mientras reprende a los sacerdotes del rey Noé, recita los Diez Mandamientos y enseña que la salvación viene por la redención de Dios, no solo por la ley de Moisés.
Cuando el rey escuchó estas palabras, les dijo a sus sacerdotes: "Llévense a este hombre y mátenlo, porque ¿qué tenemos que ver con él? Está loco."
And now when the king had heard these words, he said unto his priests: Away with this fellow, and slay him; for what have we to do with him, for he is mad.
Ellos se adelantaron e intentaron agarrarlo, pero él se resistió y les dijo:
And they stood forth and attempted to lay their hands on him; but he withstood them, and said unto them:
No me toques, porque Dios te castigará si pones tus manos sobre mí. Aún no he entregado el mensaje que el Señor me envió a dar, ni te he dicho lo que me pediste que dijera. Así que Dios no permitirá que sea destruido en este momento.
Touch me not, for God shall smite you if ye lay your hands upon me, for I have not delivered the message which the Lord sent me to deliver; neither have I told you that which ye requested that I should tell; therefore, God will not suffer that I shall be destroyed at this time.
Pero tengo que cumplir los mandamientos que Dios me ha dado; y porque te he dicho la verdad, te has enojado conmigo. Y también, porque he hablado la palabra de Dios, me has juzgado como si estuviera loco.
But I must fulfil the commandments wherewith God has commanded me; and because I have told you the truth ye are angry with me. And again, because I have spoken the word of God ye have judged me that I am mad.
Después de que Abinadí dijo estas palabras, el pueblo del rey Noé no se atrevió a tocarlo, porque el Espíritu del Señor estaba con él; y su rostro resplandecía con gran brillo, así como el de Moisés cuando estaba en el monte Sinaí hablando con el Señor.
Now it came to pass after Abinadi had spoken these words that the people of king Noah durst not lay their hands on him, for the Spirit of the Lord was upon him; and his face shone with exceeding luster, even as Moses’ did while in the mount of Sinai, while speaking with the Lord.
Habló con poder y autoridad de Dios y continuó sus palabras, diciendo:
And he spake with power and authority from God; and he continued his words, saying:
Ves que no tienes el poder para matarme, así que terminaré mi mensaje. También puedo notar que lo que digo sobre tus pecados te inquieta profundamente porque es la verdad.
Ye see that ye have not power to slay me, therefore I finish my message. Yea, and I perceive that it cuts you to your hearts because I tell you the truth concerning your iniquities.
Mis palabras te llenan de asombro y maravilla, y también de enojo.
Yea, and my words fill you with wonder and amazement, and with anger.
Terminaré mi mensaje, y después de eso no importa a dónde vaya, mientras sea salvo.
But I finish my message; and then it matters not whither I go, if it so be that I am saved.
Pero te digo esto: cualquier cosa que me hagas después de esto será un símbolo y una prefiguración de cosas que van a suceder.
But this much I tell you, what you do with me, after this, shall be as a type and a shadow of things which are to come.
Ahora te leeré el resto de los mandamientos de Dios, porque veo que no están escritos en tu corazón; veo que has estudiado y enseñado la maldad durante la mayor parte de tu vida.
And now I read unto you the remainder of the commandments of God, for I perceive that they are not written in your hearts; I perceive that ye have studied and taught iniquity the most part of your lives.
Ahora, recuerda que te dije: No te harás ninguna imagen tallada, ni semejanza alguna de las cosas que están en el cielo arriba, ni en la tierra abajo, ni en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
And now, ye remember that I said unto you: Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of things which are in heaven above, or which are in the earth beneath, or which are in the water under the earth.
No te inclines ante ellos ni los sirvas, porque yo, el Señor tu Dios, soy un Dios celoso, que castiga la maldad de los padres en los hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me odian.
And again: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me;
Y muestro misericordia a millares que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
No tomes el nombre del Señor tu Dios en vano, porque el Señor no considerará inocente a quien toma Su nombre en vano.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Acuérdate del día de reposo y consérvalo santo.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Trabajarás durante seis días y harás todas tus tareas.
Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;
Pero el séptimo día es el día de reposo del Señor tu Dios. No harás ningún trabajo, ni tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu sierva, ni tu ganado, ni el extranjero que esté dentro de tus puertas.
But the seventh day, the sabbath of the Lord thy God, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates;
En seis días el Señor hizo el cielo y la tierra, el mar y todo lo que hay en ellos; por eso el Señor bendijo el día de reposo y lo santificó.
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is; wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para que tus días se alarguen en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da.
Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
No matarás.
Thou shalt not kill.
No cometerás adulterio. No robarás.
Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal.
No darás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
No codicies la casa de tu prójimo; no codicies la esposa de tu prójimo, ni su siervo, ni su sierva, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni nada que le pertenezca a tu prójimo.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.
Cuando Abinadí terminó de hablar, les preguntó: “¿Les han enseñado a este pueblo que deben hacer todas estas cosas para guardar estos mandamientos?”
And it came to pass that after Abinadi had made an end of these sayings that he said unto them: Have ye taught this people that they should observe to do all these things for to keep these commandments?
Te digo que no; porque si lo hubieras hecho, el Señor no me habría enviado a profetizar cosas malas acerca de este pueblo.
I say unto you, Nay; for if ye had, the Lord would not have caused me to come forth and to prophesy evil concerning this people.
Has dicho que la salvación viene por la ley de Moisés. Yo te digo que es necesario que guardes la ley de Moisés por ahora; pero también te digo que llegará el momento en que ya no será necesario guardar la ley de Moisés.
And now ye have said that salvation cometh by the law of Moses. I say unto you that it is expedient that ye should keep the law of Moses as yet; but I say unto you, that the time shall come when it shall no more be expedient to keep the law of Moses.
También te digo que la salvación no viene solo por la ley; y si no fuera por la expiación que Dios mismo hará por los pecados y las transgresiones de su pueblo, inevitablemente serían destruidos, aun con la ley de Moisés.
And moreover, I say unto you, that salvation doth not come by the law alone; and were it not for the atonement, which God himself shall make for the sins and iniquities of his people, that they must unavoidably perish, notwithstanding the law of Moses.
Ahora te digo que fue necesario dar una ley a los hijos de Israel, incluso una ley muy estricta, porque eran un pueblo terco, rápido para hacer lo malo y lento para recordar al Señor su Dios.
And now I say unto you that it was expedient that there should be a law given to the children of Israel, yea, even a very strict law; for they were a stiffnecked people, quick to do iniquity, and slow to remember the Lord their God;
Así que se les dio una ley—una ley de ritos y ordenanzas—una ley que debían cumplir estrictamente cada día, para ayudarles a recordar a Dios y su deber hacia Él.
Therefore there was a law given them, yea, a law of performances and of ordinances, a law which they were to observe strictly from day to day, to keep them in remembrance of God and their duty towards him.
Todas estas cosas eran símbolos de cosas que habrían de venir.
But behold, I say unto you, that all these things were types of things to come.
¿Entendían ellos la ley? Te digo que no, no todos la entendían. Esto era porque sus corazones eran duros; no comprendían que nadie puede ser salvo si no es por la redención de Dios.
And now, did they understand the law? I say unto you, Nay, they did not all understand the law; and this because of the hardness of their hearts; for they understood not that there could not any man be saved except it were through the redemption of God.
¿Acaso Moisés no les profetizó acerca de la venida del Mesías y que Dios redimiría a su pueblo? ¿Y no han hablado todos los profetas que han profetizado desde el principio del mundo, de una u otra manera, acerca de estas cosas?
For behold, did not Moses prophesy unto them concerning the coming of the Messiah, and that God should redeem his people? Yea, and even all the prophets who have prophesied ever since the world began—have they not spoken more or less concerning these things?
¿Acaso no dijeron que Dios mismo descendería entre los hijos de los hombres, tomaría la forma de un hombre y avanzaría con gran poder sobre la tierra?
Have they not said that God himself should come down among the children of men, and take upon him the form of man, and go forth in mighty power upon the face of the earth?
¿Y no han dicho también que él realizaría la resurrección de los muertos, y que él mismo sería oprimido y afligido?
Yea, and have they not said also that he should bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, and that he, himself, should be oppressed and afflicted?
